Anak lembu tersebut sangat keras kepala sehingga ia telah dibeli oleh seorang pemain sirkus, yang menawarkan uang kepada siapa saja yang berhasil menungganginya pada waktu yang ditetapkan.
Grant melihat beberapa anak muda yang lebih tua daripadanya dilempar keatas tanah oleh anak lembu tersebut apabila mereka mencoba menunggangnya. Dia mencoba menaiki badan anak lembu itu dan berhasil bertahan beberapa waktu tetapi akhirnya terjatuh juga. Kemudian, beliau menggunakan kebijaksaannya. Selepas mendapat izin untuk mencoba lagi, kali ini beliau akan menyelesaikan masalah ini daripada sudut yang lain.
Daripada menunggung seperti biasa, dia melompat keatas badan lembu itu dengan terbalik, yaitu memandang kearah ekor dan bukannya kepala. Budak itu mencengkram perut anak lembu itu dengan kakinya dan memegang ekor lembu tersebut dengan kedua tangannya. Walau bagaimana pun cara lembu itu mengoncang dan menghentak, ia tetap tidak dapat menjatuhkan budak itu. Anak lembu itu berhasil dikalahkan dan Ulysses S. Grant dan memenangi hadiah. Setelah besar, Grant memasuki tentara dan mengetuai batalyon serta memenangi perang saudara.
Daripada pengalaman Grant ini telah memberi dua kegunaan penting tentang kreativitas;

PPC stands for Pay Per Click - a popular advertising technique on the Internet.
